Houdini-Proof Fence Extender for Dogs

KITDOG50PL

Safely contain a climbing or jumping dog with our curved fence extender kit. Designed with durable, powder coated steel, our proprietary curved dog arm technology is the top of the line in pet containment!
+ Expand Product Description

Our Houdini-Proof Dog Containment System is a fence extender for dogs designed to stop them from jumping and/or climbing an existing fence that is 4' or taller. The key to this fence extension kit is the unique patented design of our fence extender arms.

These fence toppers for dogs can increase the overall height of your fence by two additional feet. The curved top creates an arch over the fence that stops the dog’s forward momentum and prevents them from jumping and/or climbing over the fence.

Works on Nearly Any Fence Type

Types of fence systems

The curved extension arms of our fence extender for dogs can attach to most walls and fence types, including, but not limited to, wood, chain link, wire-backed split rail, decorative aluminum/wrought iron, PVC/vinyl fence, and masonry walls.

Durable, Purpose-Built Components

The Houdini-Proof fence topper for dogs is made of formed 1 ⅜” diameter, 16 gauge galvanized steel tubing. It reaches over the fenced area 20” and can be set to raise the fence height as high as two additional feet. Two thick, steel mounting plates are welded to the base portion of each arm, and the entire arm is finished with a UV stable black powder coating.

See the "Kit Contents" Tab for information on what is included in each kit size.

Mesh Fencing Options

Included in the fence extension kit is your choice of either our Durable Poly Fencing Material or, as an upgrade, we offer black vinyl-coated galvanized Heavy-Duty Welded Wire instead.

The Durable Poly Meshfence extender for dogs is a very strong polypropylene plastic with UV inhibitors that will withstand a dog jumping into it repeatedly. However, this component will not hold up to a dog that will grab and rip at the fence with its claws or teeth. The poly mesh is a flexible material with square openings measuring 1.7” x 1.7”. The individual wires have a diameter of about 2.0-2.2mm. The advantage of using a fence topper for dogs with poly fencing is that it is easier to install and less costly than the upgraded, heavy-duty welded wire fencing material.

The Heavy-Duty Welded Wire Mesh Fencing is recommended for dogs that regularly test the fence with claws and/or teeth. This type of fence extender for dogs offers some flexibility, but it is more rigid compared to the poly mesh fence extension kit. It also has square openings that measure 1.7" x 1.7". Additionally, the welded wire is considered more durable overall ⏤ made with black vinyl-coated galvanized steel for added longevity outdoors. The welded wire is heavier in weight and a bit more difficult to install than the poly mesh fence topper for dogs. But it is the right product if you are concerned about your dog repeatedly and persistently testing the fence extension system.

Combine Fencing Solutions

A Freestanding DIY Dog Fence can be used to build a new fence line from the ground up and create a standalone enclosure for your dog. But did you know it can work with your existing fence too? Create a barrier across a walkway, use it as a partition to divide a yard or keep dogs separated, or use part of your existing fence to create an enclosure within the yard. Freestanding fencing solutions can even be used alongside your fence extender for dogs.

Gaps in your fence line? Incomplete perimeter fence? Or maybe a shared fence with your neighbor that you can’t modify? Fill in the gaps with our Freestanding DIY Dog Fence!

Dog going over AND under the fence? Consider adding our Dig Proofer system to your setup!

The arms secure to wood posts with screws or lags, round metal posts (like for chain links) with U-Bolts, and square metal posts with Square U-Bolts.

Both fence options are secured to the Dog-Proofer arms with our black UV stable 120lb test Heavy Duty Zip Ties.

Installation Instructions

Chain Link Fences:

  • You will need (2) U-Bolts of the appropriate size to secure each Houdini-Proof arm to a round chain link post. We sell U-Bolts in sets of (2), so one set of U-Bolts is what you need to secure one arm when installing your fence extender for dogs.
  • It is not easy to measure the diameter of round chain link posts due to post caps and top rails blocking access to the top edge of posts. Use a soft tape measure like the measuring tapes used for sewing to measure the circumference of the post. A circumference of about 5 1/4" = 1 5/8" post, a circumference of about 6" = 2" post, and a circumference of about 7 5/16" = 2 1/2" post. Usually, chain link fence toppers for dogs have bigger posts at corners, endpoints, and gates.
  • The gate tubes are usually a smaller (1 3/8" diameter) tube. Use a 1 5/8" U-Bolt to a gate tube. If you’re installing a fence extension kit to a fence with a single door gate that will open in, you need one arm on both the gate hinge and latch-to posts and an arm on the gate on the latch side. A double door gate opening in would require that both gates have an arm where the gates meet. For outward opening gates, you need one on each gate post and one on each side of the gate. The arms on the gate need to be set higher so that when the gate opens, the arms on the gate can pass over the arms on the posts.

Decorative Aluminum/Steel and Wrought Iron Fences:

When installing your fence extender for dogs, use square U-Bolts to secure the arms to the posts. We sell the most common size of 2" square U-Bolts. Check your post size. You can also use self-drilling/tapping screws or drill and use bolts. You will likely need to use self-drilling/tapping screws or bolts at gates while installing your fence extension kit.

Wood Fences:

  • Where possible, attach the arms of your fence topper for dogs to the posts with outdoor wood screws or lags. At corners, you may need our Corner Adaptor Kit as the corner arm needs to point at a 45-degree angle.
  • Outward opening gates require an arm on both sides of the gate, and those arms need to be higher than the arms on the gate posts so the arms on the gate can swing over the arms on the posts.
  • Inward opening gates require an arm on the gate posts and an arm on the gate on the latch side. Use fence installation tools to cut the fence between the arm on the latch post and the gate’s latch side, and the gate will open.

Masonry Walls:

Secure the arms to the wall with masonry fasteners. You’ll need four per arm to install your fence extender for dogs.

Coyote fence

We have installed facing out to keep coyotes from coming in our yard. It was fairly easy for my husband and grandson to install on our chain link fence.

Dog Proofer

We added the steel version of the Hoodini Proof Fence Extender to our fence, and our dogs love it. It looks fabulous and they feel safer. No moose can come over the fence and no more dogs trying to come in. Our little wander is not able to go visiting either! It is perfect! Barely visible from the road.

The BEST Solution

Our Great Pyrenees is very clever about escaping so we were desperate to find a solution to keep her safe. This fence works like a charm. She won’t be going OVER the fence that’s for sure! The first time she spotted it she turned to look at me as if to say, “Are you kidding?”

400 Linear Feet of Fencing w/3 gates LOVE IT

Loved it so much and worked so well with my escape doggie, that I ordered the exact same system for another yard we have that is 120 Linear Feet w/2 gates. I finally have comfort knowing she will not escape the yard to chase farm critters.

Husky-Proof!

I recently adopted a husky mix from my local shelter. She has proven to be quite the escape artist, routinely jumping over my fence. I had the Houdini installed and she has not been able to escape! Once I saw her attempt, but she bounced back into the yard! *(wish I had that on film!) I am satisfied with my purchase and feel better knowing my dog is safe!

Use it at all our dog facilities (Noble Dog)

I wouldn’t build a facility without adding the dog proofer. It’s a fairly simple process to install with a few people and offers peace of mind while the dogs are out playing. No escape artist or fence climbers to worry about, letting us focus on the entire group rather than one dog or a few dogs trying to cause trouble 😊

I have found your product to literally be a life saver

When I started my Premier Boarding facility in 2018 I researched the best fences for dog boarding and built what had seemed to be a favored fence but as I became more and more successful and boarding many different dogs with different levels of anxiety and determination I quickly learned that my fence was insufficient. I installed your fence topper and MY ANXIETY immediately dropped. The three escape artists in my customer base were stumped.

I can walk away from the dogs playing now which allows the dogs to receive more playtime, I can take a day off without worrying that a dog gets loose and can just rest easy knowing that we are offering the best security and safety for our guests as possible.
